THE PROCEDURE
Breast reduction or reduction mammaplasty procedure
consists of removal of excess fatty breast tissue and
skin, moving the nipple to a higher position and reshape
the breast. There are several variations of incisions and
technique to restore optimal size and normal shape to the
breast.
The surgery is performed in our plastic surgery facility
under general anesthesia and can take anywhere from two to
three hours. You will be hospitalized for 1-2 days. Sutures
are removed in 7-10 days and you are expected to wear an
elastic support bra for six to eight weeks. Most patients can
return to work in two weeks and resume normal activities and
sports activities in 6-8 weeks.
Breast reduction is a safe procedure performed on thousands
of women each year. When performed by a qualified and
experienced plastic surgeon there is minimum risk of any major
complication.
