Wrinkles
and frown lines often first appear in the brow
and forehead area. A forehead lift or brow lift
can smooth out the wrinkles and correct drooping
brows and heavy lids to provide a more youthful,
refreshed and friendlier appearance. A forehead
lift is most commonly performed in the 40-60
age range to minimize the visible effects of
aging. However, it can also help people of any
age who have developed furrows or frown lines
due to stress or muscle activity. A brow lift
can be performed alone or with other cosmetic
procedures such as a facelift, eyelid surgery,
or laser skin resurfacing. Although a forehead
lift does not stop the clock, it can minimize
the appearance of aging for years. |

THE PROCEDURE
A brow lift can be
performed as an out-patient procedure under local anesthesia
or with local anesthesia with deep sedation. It can
also be performed under general anesthesia, and may
take 1 to 2 hours.
With the classical
or "open" method the incision is hidden just
inside or by the hairline across the scalp and between
the ears. The appearance of wrinkles is lessened by
removing selected muscles and releasing tissues, which
cause the wrinkles. The eyebrows may also be elevated,
and excess skin at the incision will be removed to allow
a gentle re-draping of your forehead skin.
WHAT WILL MY RECOVERY BE LIKE?
Patients may experience some numbness
and temporary discomfort around the incision, which
can be controlled with prescription medication. Some
swelling around the eyes usually disappears in a week
or so. Although you should be up and about in a day
or two, plan on taking it easy for at least the first
week after surgery. You should be able to shower and
shampoo your hair within two days, or as soon as the
bandage is removed. Most patients are back to normal
routine in a week to 10 days.
