Blepharoplasty(Eye Lids Surgery)

FOR SMOOTH YOUNGER LOOKING EYES

Sometimes, even after a great night's sleep, it can be hard to feel alive and vibrant when you see those tired, drooping eyes looking back at you from the mirror. The loose skin over your eyes and the puffy bags under your eyes can make you look more tired and older than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision.

If this sounds familiar, you're not alone. Each year thousands of women and men choose eyelid surgery to help restore a more energetic and youthful appearance. The best candidates for eyelid surgery are women and men who are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in their expectations. Most are 35 or older, but if droopy, baggy eyelids run in your family, you may decide to have eyelid surgery at a younger age.

Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty can correct sagging eyelids, remove fatty pouches beneath the eyes and remove excess skin from the upper eyelids. Blepharoplasty can be done alone or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift, a brow lift or laser skin resurfacing.

During your initial cosmetic consultation, we will discuss your particular condition, your expectations, and the probable outcome of treatment. You will be shown several before and after treatment photographs of patients with similar conditions, and you will receive an explanation of your treatment. Before and after photos may be taken of the area to be treated to document your results.

THE PROCEDURE

Blepharoplasty can be performed in our surgical facility as same day outpatient surgery using IV sedation and local anesthesia. Incisions are placed in the crease above each eye to correct problems of the upper eyelids. Then a thin crescent of excess skin and muscle is removed. The incisions are closed with very fine sutures. To remove the fatty deposits beneath the eyes, the incisions are placed in the natural smile crease below the lash line. Any excess skin and muscle is also removed and the incisions are closed with fine sutures.

Some swelling and bruising is expected and is reduced by applying cold compresses. Both the swelling and bruising disappears within a few days and can easily be hidden by wearing dark glasses. Patients may experience minimal discomfort for a day or two and can be controlled by medication. Sutures are removed in 4-5 days and you can resume most activities after a week to include wearing makeup. Upon complete healing, the scars fade to a thin, nearly invisible white line.

ARE THERE RISKS?

When performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, Blepharoplasty is a safe procedure with few complications complication. Risk of complications can be minimized by closely following postoperative instructions.

 YOUR NEW LOOK

A more rested, younger appearance almost always occurs when excess fat and skin are removed from around the eyes. The positive results of your eyelid surgery will last for years. For many people these results are permanent.
